In recent years, there have been significant improvements in the management of Montclair’s schools, putting more information and more control into families and other members of the Montclair community.  At least, this is the theory and – for many people – the goal.  For far too many people, the details and inner workings of our district remain distressingly obscure.  This leaves us – and therefore our schools – vulnerable to the misinformation and misunderstanding that seems to be increasingly normal in our nation.

This little blog is one attempt to help counter that movement.  The overall goal is to keep our district aimed at what Dr. Ponds called – many times – the “main thing”: successful educational outcomes for all our students.  One of the currencies we can “pay” to achieve this is an attention to detail.  That’s where these articles may help. 

Another resource I’ve made available is a sample dashboard using data from the NJ Department of Education.

Finally, I am currently a candidate for member of the Montclair Board of Education, where I hope to apply my experience to further improve our schools.
